About Äkäskero

Äkäskero Nature Resort

When we took over Äkäskero in 1993 we found an idyllic location inside the Pallas-Ylläs National park. The old lodge nestled away by the foot of Äkäskero fell would need quite some work on it to make it the perfect spot. The lodge had to be renovated but also the grounds needed some work. However we were adamant to not to disturb the pristine nature and honoured the surrounding national park by making Äkäskero a place that preserves the original Lapland feeling for our guests and visitors. We deliberately decided not to modernise too much and ensured our lodge and cabins would fade into the scenery. We want to differentiate ourselves from the run-of-the-mill tourist centres with their noisy, over crowded activities, parties and commerciality. Instead, we offer our guests a genuine nature experience right in the middle of a beautiful national park. We are committed to protecting the yet pristine and unaffected nature here in high North – Take only pictures, leave only paw prints.

To give our customers the truest Lapland, we have developed a range of activities that we ourselves and the locals love to do. During winter time – of course – this means mainly programmes with our huskies. From day tours to up to two weeks of dog sledding in the wild – we cover it all. We also snowmobiles, snowshoes, cross-country skis or reindeer spotting are possible. You ask it, we do it. During summer time Äkäskero is the perfect spot for hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, riding an ATV, fishing, berry- and mushroom picking and more. While you enjoy the surrounding national park, you can stay in one of our cabins, or our cabin hostel.
